A Very Beachy Kiwi Mango Martini

July 28, 2014
“Aruba, Jamaica, ooh I want to take ya
Bermuda, Bahama, come on pretty mama
Key Largo, Montego, baby why don’t we go, Jamaica

Off the Florida Keys, there’s a place called Kokomo
That’s where you want to go to get away from it all
Bodies in the sand, tropical drink melting in your hand
We’ll be falling in love to the rhythm of a steel drum band
Down in Kokomo”
— The Beach Boys

Does anyone remember this song? I'm gonna make you a drink that you will take you to the beach. To white sandy beaches in the arms of the very hot and very young Tom Cruise. And add a little spice to pump it up as well.

I've been in love with Kiwis for a while. Its such a delightful fruit. The closest thing in India to a Kiwi physically would be a chikoo. But thats where the resemblance ends- Kiwi is lemony green tangy sweet fruit with tiny seeds that you can eat. And as the name suggests Kiwis are from New Zealand.

For me the flavour pairing was clear- the sun gold had an almost mango like texture and the green would balance with chat masala very well.

So here it is a Kiwi Mango Martini with a chat masala rim. Take a glass of that and run along to the beach.

This particular post is created as a contest submission for the IFBM partnered with Urban Dazzle. The glass that I would choose to serve this drink would be a modern stemless martini glass or a very traditional martini glass.

INGREDIENTS

1 peg (8 oz) Kiwi pulp- A mix of the green and the sun gold

1 peg mango pulp

1 peg sugar syrup

A squeeze of lemon

1 peg of vodka

A shaker full of ice

Mint and basil to muddle

Papa's magic masala on a plate  (a hand me down recipe for better than chat masala from generations in my family)

Slices of kiwi for decoration

METHOD

  1. Prep the martini glasses by dipping the rim in a plate of Papa's magic masala. The rim of the glass should be moist to ensure that the masala sticks. Set aside.
  2. Blend the kiwis and set aside (do not add water)
  3. Blend the mangoes and set aside (do not add water)
  4. Create a sugar syrup - a cup of water with 1 tbsn of sugar. Bring this down to room temperature. Add a squeeze of lemon
  5. Set up your bar - it looks so much more fun this way
  6. Add all the ingredients in a glass
  7. Tear some mint and basil into the drink
  8. Pour the drink into a shaker
  9. Shake shake shake till you hear the ice break (Full upper body strength baby) Bring your Tom Cruise on!
  10. Use the strainer and pour into the chat masala rimmed martini glass
The bar is set- mango pulp, kiwi pulp, sugar syrup with lime, ice and garnishes

THE VERDICT

  1. The drink is smoooooooth...I mean literally.
  2. The magic masala on the rim is the perfect finish to each sip. I literally went around the glass licking the masala with each sip.
  3. Also this drink is going to take you straight to Kokomo.

Also does anyone remember this movie! Was it just me lusting after a very very hot Tom Cruise. And hi cut swimming suits!

I had this poster of Tom Cruise pinned on my walls throughout my teenage years. I think my sis might remember this.
